Artist's Comments

This sculpture is from a very hetic & brutal time in France's past....the complete story will take some time to write...as soon as it's finished I'll post it up here....I love the power that Rodin was able to imbue his figures with....he also believed that the hands could be far more expressive than the face....Michelangelo once told some of his sculpture students "If you want to master sculpture, draw, draw, draw."

More stories of this kinda jazz to come...

J.

(for what its worth - this was a charcoal sketch that I did a few years ago - it took about 7 hours from start to finish - in one sitting)

I love the detail in the hands and the way they shadow the face. The way the body abstracts out is great as well. Very good work.

Love it! I wasn't actually sure if it was a photo or a sketch at first.

This is amazing and deserves many more comments and views. The way you have drawn this shows so much depth both in the terms of shape and in the terms of emotion. Very , very good.

Just because it is impossible now - doesn't mean it always will be.

Awsome. I love how his torso looks as if its been clawed and torn. And his the way he holds his face in his hands expresses so much agony... at leaste thats what I got from it. :) Gorgeous work

This is absolutely amazing. Not just because the technical aspects of this are perfect (which they are, your technique and the change in values and shadow/highlight play is just breathtaking) but also because i think you really captured the essence and spirit that embodies Rodin's work. You captured something absolutely amazing and thank you for including such an insightful description. All around wonderful work.. you really made me pause and just absorb it... wonderful!
